Pro Democratic Pledge

The pledge contains rules of engagement. We argue that there is a correlation or direct relationship between each pledge and the preceding proposition. LIPD has partnered with the Project Management University Research Institute to research each hypothesis or proposition. We will debate the issues or data that researchers will gather, confirm, or disconfirm the correlation recovery and share the results with the world, including those interested in Liberia’s democracy, stability, and prosperity.
We will use the gamut of research methods and various statistical software to do the research study and report the results. The best bet for volunteers and interested participants in the LIPD research study is to click here or here to read all they need to know about the research, including our mentoring program, research ethics, research eligibility, and research technologies.

Pledge 1: County Development Agenda (CDA)

Proposition 1: If the CDA criteria, the Pro-Poor Policy, Poverty Reduction Strategy, and the Millennium Development Goals measure Liberia’s development fully, then achieving CDA goals will improve the standard of living in rural Liberia including the country. It will demonstrate that the government is “walking the talk” and implementing policies and politics that resonate with 95% of the people that the government represents.

Now take the County Development Agenda Pledge

I, ______, pledge to the citizens and residents of the ____or district of the county of ______ and to the Liberian people that I will do three things: First, I will completely support and abide by the County Development Agenda, including its five pillars and priority projects. Second, I will oppose any efforts to decrease resource allocation, including money, human resource, and materials or equipment to implement CDA. And third, I pledge to work with the president, the government, and stakeholders interested in improving the standard of living in rural Liberia.

Pledge 2: Corruption

Proposition 2: If corruption weakens the rule of law and good governance, sabotages economic growth, distorts and exploits public investments, and endangers national security, then eradicating corruption will be a significant step in achieving economic and political stability in Liberia.
Now take the Anti-Corruption Pledge
I, ______, pledge to the citizens and residents of the ____or district of the county of ______ and to the people of Liberia that I do three things: First, I will fight corruption and adopt clear and robust policies about corruption and unethical behavior in the discharge of my duties and responsibilities. Second, and I will encourage open communication and whistleblowers to report on crime and unethical behaviors. And third, I also pledge to work with Liberia’s government, implement internal control systems and support law enforcement agencies and the courts to punish any person found guilty of corrupt acts anywhere in government.

Pledge 3: Checks and Balances System

Proposition 3: If the Liberian government espouses and advocates democratic ideals, including the checks and balances system, then duly sworn government officials will not allow one branch of government to make the law, enforce it and execute it. The fusion of two or three branches will theoretically and practically lead to tyranny, denial of liberty, and arbitrary control of life and property of individual citizens.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, an executive branch agency, currently regulates or sets procedures in tribal trials and determines tribal court fees. The regulation of and setting up systems for tribal courts is a function of the Judiciary Branch. The fusion of power could lead to arbitrary control or denial of equal justice under the law. It’s simply against the checks and balances system.

Now take the Checks and Balances System Pledge

I, ______, pledge to the citizens and residents of the ____or district of the county of ______ that I do two things: First, I pledge to honor and commit to the Checks and Balances System. I will ensure that the three branches of government, namely the executive, the judicial, and the legislative branches, are co-equals. No one branch should be allowed to dictate or unduly influence the other branches. Second, I pledge to work with the Liberia government to develop and maintain an electoral system that provides free and fair elections, encourages the participation of all in the democratic process, good governance, social cohesion, and solidarity among Liberians irrespective of social status.

Pledge 4: Imports and Exports

Proposition 4: If exports increase GDP, expand the economy as opposed to imports that adversely affect economic growth, then Liberia will only thrive if it keeps a sustainable balance of trade, protects local markets against imports, and made in Liberia initiatives. Liberia’s economic growth and expansion depend on how much the county net imports will be lower than exports.

Now take Imports/Exports Pledge

I, ______, pledge to the citizens and residents of the ____or district of the county of ______ that I do three things: First, I support and encourage government policies that increase exports and provide low-interest loans to local farmers engaged in exporting products or services. Second, and I will discourage the increase in consumption of imported goods or services, especially rice. And third, I pledge to work with the Liberia government to impose or restrict any importable product or service that negatively upset Liberia’s trade balance.

Pledge 5: Good Governance

Proposition 6: If good governance promotes the rule of law, equality under the law, transparency, and accountability in managing the affairs of the state, the participation of the poorest and the most vulnerable in decision-making over the allocation of development resources, then the current government will thrive to achieve good governance. Otherwise, the Liberian people have the constitutional duty to vote for candidates in the next electoral cycle that they believe will not only promote good governance but thrive to achieve it.

Take the Democratic Leadership pledge
I, ______, pledge to the citizens and residents of the ____or district of the county of ______ that I will do two things: First, I pledge and commit to equality under the law, Participation of all members of civil society in the democratic process, good governance, and sustainable development. And second, I pledge to work with the Liberia government to develop and maintain an electoral system that provides free and fair elections, creates social cohesion and solidarity among Liberians irrespective of social status.

Pledge 6: Education

Proposition 6: Since education yields significant development benefits, productivity, better income, and economic growth, then increasing investment in quality education from 2.8 percent to 5.0 percent beginning 2022 will increase quality education, skilled labor force participation, productivity, and boosts Liberia’s competitive edge in all sectors.

Take the Education Pledge

Second, I pledge to work with the Liberia government to manage better and support scholarship students both at home and overseas.

Pledge 7: Democratic Leadership

Proposition 7: If government officials commit to the equality of all under the law, strengthen democracy, promote sustainable development, social cohesion, and solidarity to run Liberia as a fully-fledged democratic country, Liberian leaders must become democratic leaders in action.

Take the Democratic Leadership pledge

I, ______, pledge to the citizens and residents of the ____or district of the county of ______ that I will do two things: First, I pledge and commit to equality under the law, the rule of law, participation of all members of civil society in the democratic process, good governance, and sustainable development. And second, I pledge to work with the Liberia government to develop and maintain an electoral system that provides free and fair elections to create social cohesion and solidarity among Liberians, irrespective of social status.

Pledge 8: Political Parties

Proposition 8: Since political parties are essential to the stability of the democratic system, then a political party that works to identify issues throughout the year contributes to Liberia’s democratic stability more than those political parties that burgeon during election periods and fizz out afterward.

Take The Political Party Pledge

I, ______, pledge to the citizens and residents of the ____or district of the county of ______ that we will do four things: First, we will accept the results of democratically held elections. We will concede, in good faith, to the victors and do our part to assist the government-elect or the incumbent in the supreme interest of the Liberian people. Second, I pledge to work hand in hand with the Liberia government to set strategic technological goals and work together to achieve them.

Pledge 10: Ethics and Morality

Proposition 10: Since ethical stewardship creates model values and behavior worthy of emulation, improves trusted relationships with stakeholders, and supports long-term interest over short-term interest, installing moral values in government will give an excellent reputation to the country and increase direct investment opportunities. Unethical leaders create a work environment that breeds distrust, uncertainty, dishonesty, greed, and low employee morale.

Take the Ethical Pledge
